Will Intercultural Competency net Equity?

Does culturally competency address equity, if 90% of the folks in an organization that have increased their cultural competency are still white? What happens when all the teachers I work with are…Continue

Ways to be involved in Groups

As you can see on the left hand side column of this site, Intercultural Commons has "Groups", each of whom has a unique topic related to intercultural work.

There are two ways to be involved in these groups. One way is to find the groups that interest you and become a member. You can participate in discussions, exchange ideas, and post resources in the group page.

Do you have a topic of special interest or an expertise area of practice/knowledge that is not reflected in the existing group topics? Consider creating your own group! This is the other way of being involved.

The groups with photo/logo icons next to the group names already have active facilitators. You can take on a facilitator role for one of the inactive groups or start your own from scratch.

The Commons site administrators (Akiko Maeker, Paul Maeker, Lisa Podratz) will support your getting started. Send one of the administrators a message expressing your interest!

Came across a recent (May 2010) validation study of the CCAI, but have not had a chance to read it over. Here's a link to the abstract: http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/123439535/abstract?CRETRY=1&SRETRY=0

I posted before about the contrast between high and low context communication in the presentation of "exit" signs. I came across another article that discusses the implication of this contrast. But this time, the topic is website design.…

Tony, I read your message/question and thought to add to Akiko's reply. In order for the people to members of your group/subgroup, they first need to be a member of the Commons. If they're not a member, they can't join any groups…

Hi Tony, For people to become members of your group, they need to join the group. I am assuming that you sent them the invitation to join the group, but that would not make them members. They have to come to the site and choose to join your group…

Will Intercultural Competency net Equity?

Does culturally competency address equity, if 90% of the folks in an organization that have increased their cultural competency are still white? What happens when all the teachers I work with are more culturally competent, per the IDI, yet are still 100% white racially? Is Cultural Competency alone enough to secure equity?See More

Akiko, The couple folks that I have added do not show up as members of my subgroup on intercultural commons. How do I make that happen? Also, is there a way to get activity on the site to be sent direclty to my email. I think I could be more active…

I came across a really great resource for international trainers and expats. It's RW3's Country Guides and it appears HSBC is offering it for free (otherwise, it's very expensive to gain access). Check it out while it lasts.
